The former first round pick (44th overall) by the San Diego Padres, Jankowski is still the only player in Stony Brook baseball history to be honored with National Player of the Year recognition.

The Lancaster, Pa., native led the nation in numerous offensive categories such as hits, runs scored and triples during that run through Coral Gables and Baton Rouge en route to Omaha. Jankowski was the 2012 ABCA/Rawlings National Co-Player of the Year and a first team All-American by four different news outlets. This marks the fourth time he has been selected to open a campaign with a Major League club. The Texas Rangers selected the contract of Jankowski as part of its pre-Opening Day moves on Thursday afternoon.
